No Text Is Worth Dying For
What does it say when a text messaging company advocates a policy of no texting? Well, we're about to find out because we, TextPower, are using all of the tools in our social media toolkit to promote a "No texting while driving" campaign. We've been tweeting articles about it (@TextPower) and reminding our customers that it's dangerous and, well, dumb. How dumb?
Dumb enough to kill more teenagers now than drunk driving.
Dumb enough to travel the distance of a football field when you take your eyes off the road long enough to read a text (5 seconds at 55MPH - we promise, the math is correct - it's a football field's worth of distance).
Dumb enough to be the primary cause of injuring 400,000+ people
We're not the only ones that believe that driving while texting - which some people refer to as "DWT" and others simply as being "intexticated" - should be discouraged or, heaven help us, outlawed. (While we are almost madly free marketeers and capitalists there are just some things that need laws. There are red lights for a reason, right?)In our journey and advocacy against driving intexticated we were fortunate enough to stumble across a company that's putting their money where their heart is. They are actually giving stuff away in an effort to discourage driving intexticated until such time as it is outlawed. MyParkingSign.com has an open offer to give schools, institutions and anyone else that can deliver the message to a lot of drivers signs and stickers for cars that espouse the "No Texting While Driving" message. These folks are the web's premiere provider of parking signs of all varieties and are determined to help eliminate this scourge by doing everything that they can - and what they can do is to give away (at no small cost to them) signs like the yellow "Don't text and drive" sign shown above and stickers that look like this: TextPower is going to continue working with MyParkingSigns towards ending this deadly habit. It's one of the most preventable forms of injury and death on the road today. More importantly, though, we're simply not going to do it. Driving intexticated may be dumb, but we're not.Join us - take the pledge not to text and drive. Contact the team at MyParkingSigns.com for a free sign and "Text Free Car" stickers and put them in places where they'll get some attention. After all, the next time you're out on the road, that person texting while driving could be the one coming towards you.
